“Half the time I am a cheese head, the other half I pretend to be a Georgia peach.”

— Michele Magadance Skinner, on Facebook

“Hauled the box down to Florida with me for the winter.”

— Michele Skinner, quoted in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, March 2015
Facebook comment by Michele Magadance Skinner: 'I am married and we have two residences, one in my hometown of Eau Claire, WI and the other north of Atlanta, where my husband has his base of business. We go back and forth. So half the time I am a cheese head, the other half I pretend to be a Georgia peach.'
In her own words: “two residences, one in my hometown of Eau Claire, WI and the other north of Atlanta.”
Home, sweet homes

Tax breaks in two states.

Some property tax breaks are only for the place you actually live. Skinner and her husband claimed them in Wisconsin and in Georgia in the same year.

Wisconsin

A Lottery & Gaming Credit on the Altoona house, claimed every year since at least 2020.

Wisconsin only gives this credit on a primary residence.

Georgia

In 2025, a senior homestead exemption on the Dawsonville lake house. They paid no property tax on it that year.

Georgia homestead exemptions are only for a primary residence.

You can only have one home. She claimed two.

It's not just taxes. Fifteen days after voting absentee in Wisconsin in November 2020, Skinner registered to vote in Georgia and voted in its January 2021 U.S. Senate runoff.
