Keeping the Brew Crew in Brew City

The Brewers are having one of their best seasons in franchise history, and they'll be playing in Milwaukee through 2050 because of a bipartisan deal David Crowley helped craft in 2023.

At the bill signing, December 2023
"No one wants to see how the sausage is made, but everyone wants to see the sausages run."
David Crowley, Milwaukee County Executive
The problem in 2023
  • American Family Field needed major repairs, and the Brewers' lease only guaranteed they'd stay through 2030.
  • Without a long-term deal, Milwaukee could have lost its team.
  • The first Republican plan charged Milwaukee County $5 million a year for 27 years, twice the city's share, while the county was already facing a budget gap.

Crowley went to the table and cut the county's bill in half.

Crowley said from the start that he wanted a deal that kept the Brewers here, and that it had to work for county budgets. He worked with leaders from both parties to get it done.

The final deal cut Milwaukee County's share from $5 million a year to $2.5 million, the same as the city's.
